Question about AT&T Data Plans

So before AT&T required you to have a separate data plan for LTE, but is that still the case? I had my 4s sim in a Note the other day and I didn't get any annoying messages saying that a compatible LTE data plan is required. Furthermore, I can't find any mention of a separate plan on the AT&T website. Did they do away with this stupid requirement?
