Question about ATT Next & Apple Upgrade

I currently have a 6+ on ATT Next, and I'm really interested in the Apple upgrade program.

My Next 12 plan is eligible for the upgrade right now, and I am wondering: may I trade in my 6+ and cancel my Next 12 plan in favor of setting up my new 6s+ on Apple's program?

No..you have to pay the balance and keep the phone. After that, you can then switch to the Apple program.

Why? Just sell the old phone. It should be easy to sell it for more than the payoff amount.

I didn't realize they were still going for so much. $380 left on payments and people are bidding on them for more than $400 right now.

So...when I go to upgrade my line, I would have Apple deactivate my 6+ and activate a new 6s+? Would this automatically end my next 12 and just set me up to finish off the payments?
