If I buy a brand new unlocked phone from ebay, is the seller able to report it lost / stolen after receiving my payment and leaving me with a unusable phone? I know its not likely to happen, but I just wanted to know more about this type of situation. The phone I am looking at says its brand new, but the box was opened to unlocked the phone. Thank you.

Have you even try bidding and/or observe how the bidding goes on eBay? IS CRAZY! People paying $300+ for broken phones. Lots of these bids are bogus am sure but you get bumped anyway. Looks like a whole lot of shenanigans.

On something like an iPhone I will not buy unless in person. Too much risk in my opinion.

Why buy it on eBay, they are so expensive. Go to a store and buy one.

I've bought a 3GS and a 4S off eBay. Had a problem neither time. I recommend buying from sellers who have done so in the past if you're worried. You'll get a decent deal on an unlocked phone usually. I got my 3GS about a year ago at 180. (32GB) and recently upgraded to a 4S I believe at 380 or so.
