Okay, so I had a little dance with PayPal and Target today because:
PayPal sucks
Target sucks
Long story short- PayPal blocked transactions that it considered "fraudulent" (me trying to order something with PayPal, go figure) and when I finally got an order through, Target cancelled it because the system accidentally considered its own store address to be my personal address and decided, "HEY! He doesn't live there, FRAUD IT'S a THIEF!"
In the process of dealing with this 4.5 hour long phone call driven nightmare, I learned the following:
1) If you have an issue with PayPal, call them. Their email system is sadly about 5% as efficient as their phone system. And that's saying a lot because their phone system sucks.
2) As soon as someone answers, say "I am having an issue with a transaction being blocked and you're both incapable and unable to help me resolve it so transfer me to your supervisor."
3) Apparently the combination of OS X and Google Chrome gives me severe issues with financial websites that require cookies. And that's what I'm here to resolve.
When I log into my bank, every single time even though I'm logged into Chrome, I get prompted with the "identity verification" process which includes my mother's maiden name and asking the website to "remember this computer".
Every time I log into PayPal, I'm prompted with an identity verification step that requires me to enter a passcode that they send through text message.
Whenever I log into my Lyft driver account, I have to verify my identity through a text message.
Overall, I would say I lose anywhere from 5-10 minutes every day verifying my device multiple times throughout the day. Why is this? Why is my MacBook seemingly "blocking" me from having convenient access to these sites? Is it to "protect" me? Because frankly, it's not protecting me at all. It's obtrusive and annoying and makes it increasingly difficult for me to get work done efficiently juggling with my phone and computer and email tabs in order to make sure I verify my account.
It also makes me actually MORE susceptible to being hacked because the constant opportunities for someone to receive or see that message/verification creates more opportunities for someone to hijack my account.
So can anyone chime in? Why does this keep happening?
EDIT: This seems to also happen with Safari. It simply won't "save" my device to websites.
