Long story short - I now use Mac OS more than Windows. So there's a couple of things I'm used to on Windows which I'm missing and would like to get back. Basically, how do I:

Set it so whenever I open a Finder window, all dirs are listed first and then files?

Set it so whenever I delete a bunch of stuff, Clean Up happens so things get tidy again rather than leaving big gaps of white nothingness?

I'm not a Mac newbie but I'm now starting to delve more into this stuff and those are 2 questions I'd love to get answered :)

Thanks!!!

Try using "arrange by kind." It sorta gets you there.

There should be more control...the Mac Finder lags behind Windows in this regard. I'd like to sort by one criteria, then another, etc. But can't. Works in the list views.

There's also a "clean up by kind," if that's what you're looking for.

View menu -> Show view options -> Keep Arranged By...

And TotalFinder for the first, as suggested.

Thanks for the View Menu tip - I knew there had to be something like that.

TotalFinder looks awesome - not had chance to try it yet, looks like Directory Opus on Windows which is the best File Manager out there.

Thanks for all the help!
