hey I have an external monitor that I currently have plugging into my work laptop through HDMI.

I also have the mini display port cable that once in a while I use to plug the monitor into my MacBook Air.

my issue is if I need to charge my MacBook at the same time I cannot use the monitor, it seems to only work if it is plugged into the port that I charge my MacBook. is there a way around this?

The MacBook Air has two Thunderbolt 3 / USB-C ports, both of which should work for charging and both of which carry a DisplayPort signal.

You may need to rephrase this because quite frankly I don't get it.
