I use an 500 GB Imation external HDD, but I can't seem to delete stuff of it. Every time, I try i get a message saying something like: "The items you selected cannot be moved to the trash".

I'm hoping there's an easy fix to this, I don't want to connect my HDD to my PC just to erase stuff of it.

Check The Externals

Properties. If its set to "Read Only" then thats all it will do. Read. You need to change the Admin permissions for the disk in question in order to READ and WRITE.

This should allow you to delete items from the drive, but if I remember correctly they don't actually appear in the Trash.
I Dont delete...Just fill! :D

What are you trying to delete and is it formatted for windows ?

It says it's formatted for Windows NTFS. And I'm trying to delete some old Black Adder series

I've changed all permissions to allow read / write but still the same result. Am I missing something here?
