When I open a PDF in Firefox, it automatically opens preview and saves a copy of the pdf on my desktop. Is there a way I can prevent firefox from saving a copy onto my desktop. I keep having to delete them afterwards, and it gets annoying. Thanks in advance.

It has to save the file somewhere, even if only temporarily. You could make a separate downloads folder, set the Firefox Preferences to save to that new folder and then empty it every now and then. :)

command click the link for the pdf so it can open it in a new window?

The Adobe Acrobat plug-in doesn't work properly, so it's rare that you'll see the file the way it was displayed in Mac OS 9 or Windows. There is a third party plug-in that's free to end users to allow that kind of display.
