Question about factory unlock

My iPhone 4 has been jailbroken/unlocked since these were made available shortly after release. At this point I am now outside of contract and AT&T is willing to unlock my phone legitimately. If I recall correctly, this is all handled through iTunes now, correct? Will the phone need to be restored so it will need to be rejailbroken? Once factory unlocked, no updates will ruin that unlock, correct?

Just wanted to make sure before proceeding as I'd like to keep it jailbroken, but would like it factory unlocked vs using a hack for resale purposes.
