Hi. I want to put an HDD in my MBP 13" for extra storage. I've put one in the optical drive spot before and it was constantly spinning and eventually led me to take it out. Will I get the same constant spinning if I put the HDD in the main drive bay and the SSD in the optical drive spot?

Thanks

If you have "put hard disks in sleep when possible" checked in the System Preferences and it is in the hard drive bay, it should not constantly spin.

How do u even know it was constantly spinning? Today's drives are so quiet.

mine on the optibay, which is supposed to be spun down most of the time, was not

problem was some temperature monitoring app, apparently checking the SMART temperature wakes the HD. quit the app, drive off as expected.
