Question about installing Mavericks

I've never installed an OS before and have a question. When installing it will I loose all my data and things like music, videos, pictures etc?

No, however whenever doing ANY update always ensure you have at least one backup of your entire system. Prior to updating test the backup to ensure it works then you can update or upgrade.
