hello folks,
i'm using a factory unlock iPhone 4s on tmobile use network. i'm using the grandfather unlimited data plan, but i don't have tether service with them, and my device is not jail broken. the tethering function is the stock built in tether of the iPhone 4s on i0s 5.01, i just put internet2.voicestream.com into the apn's field of the internet tethering and i get the personal hotspot selection enable.
i was wondering, how would they (tmobile) know if i'm tethering my phone to my laptop. considering my device is factory unlock and unbranded, they have none of their (tmobile) software on my device to check if i'm enabling the tether feature. and considering i only get edge speed on my iPhone on tmobile network, which is an unusable speed for anything more than quick email check or down/upload class assignments, it would show no significant data usage pattern per month. how would they know if i'm tethering then.
my main use for the tethering is as i've mentioned, light web browsing mainly for checking forums discussions, research reading, emails, checking/download/upload daily class assignments. in my school and often at lunch time our local wireless get so congested, that it would be more efficient to tether to my phone to get my day going smoothly.
let me know your views on this so i can plan accordingly.
thanks
