Question about iphone and car radio....

I have a question, with my ipod, I have an aux. plug in my car radio and I bought a cord that plugs in the headphone jack of my ipod to the aux. plug in the car, will this also work for the iphone?? Thanks in advance
 
another reason I ask is I have seen alot of people have issues with different headphones not fitting because of the plastic on the outside, I have the same problem, does anybody have a fix to this?
