sorry, i do not have an iPhone, but I had a question.

With the Internet, do you have to have a wifi network when you want to use it on the iPhone? Or will it work just anywhere you can get cell phone service? Thanks.

You can use it anywhere. If you're in an area with slow EDGE or 3G reception, connecting to a WiFi network will make surfing the net faster.

you can use the internet, anywhere you recieve signal from a cell tower. while Edge and 3g arnt as fast as wifi, you will be able to use them when you are not in a wifi network.

ok, so if i am in a coffee shop and want to use their wifi network instead of the 3G, is it hard to do? or how does that work?

Out of the box, the iPhone will ask to connect to a nearby wifi network if it is open, like if the coffee shop offers free wifi. If the wifi at the coffee shop is secured, then you'll need the login or password if they just give that out to customers
