Do I need to inform my bank that I am buying a new phone so that they don't block Apple's charge? I mean the new phone is going to be over £900, which is a big amount and I haven't spend such an amount in a singe transaction (most has been £600 for rent which I transferred to my landlord manually by faster payments).

When I got my Apple Watch S2 from Curry's PC World, my bank blocked the transaction. I ordered it at 3am so it could be because of that, but I am not sure.

I am with Santander UK if that helps.

I cannot deal with my bank blocking Apple's charge during pre order IF Apple charges my card on pre order. If it's a hold then it may be fine, otherwise I'll lose valuable time and won't be able to get the phone in time.

I've asked this question before to my credit card company. It's a completely random check and you can't pre warn them.

Also, Apple will try several times to take the money. So if there is a block, Apple will let you know and can sort it before they cancel the order.

Oh ok. Well if they block during pre order process then I am pretty ****ed because I won't be able to place the order until the bank unblocks it. Hopefully it doesn't happen!

You place the order. Then if any block occurs, you'll find out when they charge the card before it ships. And make a quick call to the bank before Apple try again. Really no need to worry.

The order will usually still be pending, and they'll ask you to contact them once the bank releases the block.

Plus it's a phone. If you get it a few weeks late what's the biggie?

I can see why he's asked. Looking forward to buying something, having the money but being let down by a random check. Surely a "fanboy" would understand that. You are on tech forums after all.

Just think people need to put phones into perspective.
Order it online, wait for it to be delivered. Simple.
Also agree security checks by your bank can't be pre determined. Apple website is probably pretty safe by most standards.

You can inform your bank and they’ll put a note on the account but all the blocks places are done automatically if the purchase falls outside of regular spending patterns or a high risk transaction. An agent will get around to actually looking at the transaction at some point and may release the hold based on your note but in reality you would get a notification and call them to authorise before someone gets around to look at your account.

As stated above, your order will be fine and Apple will infor you to retry the payment if it failed. It won’t push out your estimated delivery.

Happened to me last year. Order was already made I just had to authorise the payment. I got my 7 on release day, no problem. Just make sure all your payment details are entered correctly. This is what can normally cause a delay.
