Earlier this week an iTunes account I have not used in years, (frankly I forgot I even had it), was hacked into. Unfortunately, this acct. was linked to my Paypal acct. and mayhem ensued. They attempted to suck out appx $4K. Fortunately, I don't keep anything like that in this savings acct. It exists solely to move $ to me from PP (eBay auctions) so I only lost about $25 sitting in my PP acct (I filed a dispute).

But here is my question for those of you who know more about how these scams work: how did the scammers know my email address was also a valid iTunes acct? The email address used for this iTunes acct isn't used for any other Internet acct except Paypal, and the two accts do not share a password. As said, I haven't used this iTunes account in years, so I think I can scratch off clickjacking, trojans, worms, etc. Also the fraud was isolated to this one iTunes acct. (I have two others).
