Ok I want to have my newly created library be located on a designated folder on an external hard drive. My question is there anything I need to change in the FCP preferences so that when I open FCP it reads the library info from my external HD when its plugged in? I'm trying save space on my computer's internal HD.

You can move your Libraries to the external drive

When you open Final Cut it may ask you to locate it the first time
(It may create a new Library in the old location that can be deleted)
But after that, you should be good to go

Under Library Properties you will have "Storage Locations" and a button to "modify settings" to select where you want all new Libraries to be located

I recently moved mine back from an external drive to my internal
I was concerned at first, but the new updates to Final Cut have enhanced the Library and made it easier

Thank you for the information I will try that out, thank you!
