question about Lion local snapshots

Lion Time machine stores local snapshots in /.MobileBackups which is also mounted in /Volumes/Mobile Backups. I plan to install a 128GB SSD in my MBP and move the stock HDD to the optical bay.
Is it possible to delete the MobileBackups folder from the SSD and use a symlink to point it to a folder on the HD without breaking Time Machine?
