Question about .Mac email aliases... (fairly urgent)

so here's one for ya...

say i have an email alias on my .Mac account and i want to make it a real address (and pay the extra $10/yr for it) that i can send emails from...can i do this? and if so, how? i've heard different things from different apple employees.
