I'm thinking about buying an LG UltraFine 5K monitor to use prominently with my MacBook Pro 2018. However, there may be occasion where I would like to use it with my older MacBook Air mid-2012. From the support docs I've read the monitor works with older Macs just not at full resolution (which is fine). Does anyone know if there is a limit to the compatibility though? Are some Mac's just too old to be at all compatible?

Any advice would very welcomed.
Many thanks

Should work with any Mac that has Thunderbolt. So for yours it should work at 2560x1600 using a TB1/2 cable and TB3 to TB2 adapter.

* when I use my 2015 Air it defaults to 2560x1440 with no option for the x1600 except using SwitchResX

Can I ask how your 2012 Air is holding up or what OS you are using? My logic board died on my 2012 Air and I’m finally getting it fixed and back at the end of the week. I’ve been without it for 2 years and was just wondering. Thanks!

I do not have a 2013 MBA, but I have a 2013 one, which runs on High Sierra without any problems in daily use.
