Question about monitors and the low end 13 inch

With the low end 13 inch MBP, how good of performance would I get with it plugged into a 22 inch monitor? Would be fast with split screen? Would it be fast in Clamshell mode?

Would it be fast enough to watch a fullscreen movie on the larger screen without any slowdown?
