So I'm really in love with the 5K screen on my 27" iMac. I do think however that I would like to sell it at some point and go with a Mac Mini and monitor combination. I also think I'd like to get a 32" monitor when I do so. However I don't want anything that has less sharp text, etc.

Am I correct in believing that I will need to eventually get a 6K 32" monitor in order to not lose any image quality? If that is the case, it appears my options are currently very limited and extremely expensive. Meaning I better pray Apple releases a cheaper 6K 32" monitor this year??

LG UltraFine 5K exists.
https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/product/HMUB2LL/A/lg-ultrafine-5k-display
Uses dual DisplayPort 1.2 over Thunderbolt 3. Supports up to 10bpc.

The Dell UP2715K and HP Z27q used dual DisplayPort 1.2 without Thunderbolt so they can do 10bpc.

Other third party non-Thunderbolt 5K displays also exist (not sure if they are being sold still).

It uses DisplayPort 1.4 which has 75% the bandwidth of dual DisplayPort 1.2 so it can do only 8bpc.

The above are all 5K 16:9 displays (5120x2880), same as the iMac 27 inch.

There exists displays with lower resolution (5120x2160 and 5120x1440). The first one might be ok for HiDPI.

The second one (5120x1440) is definitely not HiDPI - it's just really wide.

4K (3840x2160) displays don't have the dpi of 5K but might be good enough. I use 3008x1692 on a 27" 4K display - that's the same as one might use on a 6K.

Little confused by your response. Didn't really addressed what I was asking.

I'm not interested in anything smaller than 32" at this point. And I believe I'd want a 6K monitor as to not take a step down from the 5K resolution from my current 27" panel.

But I also figure the 6K market is a fortune right now and I'm not sure that will change anytime soon unless Apple releases a cheaper monitor this year.

You're right. The only thing that exists now that is 32" and is at least 5K is the 6K Apple Pro Display XDR.
Apple doesn't support 8K and that would probably be more expensive anyway.

It's a real shame that if I want the same experience I have now on a slightly larger screen that I would need to purchase a 6K monitor which currently is a fortune.

And the 5K monitor situation really is no better to keep the current PPI I have. I don't like the look of the LG 27" UltraFine one bit. Plus I'd really prefer to move up to 32".

I guess my only hope is a future 32" 6K monitor from Apple or the like that is $1,500 or close to it.
