Question about notifications when using iPad

Hi everyone,

I have a question that I think I know the answer to already, but I’m hoping somebody knows a work around for it.

I would like to have notifications come through on my watch when I’m using my iPad and it appears this isn’t possible. I understand the logic why they get pushed through to my IPad while I’m using it, but at least half the time I’m using my iPad I’m either in class or studying and don’t the notifications popping up while I’m in the middle of reading or taking notes. The only notifications I really want to come through to the watch are text messages. I tried turning notifications off on my iPad, thinking that since they’re not coming through while using it they would get pushed to the watch but that doesn’t appear to work. I’ve had to just disable text messages for the time being.

Any ideas or am I stuck like this for now?

Your watch and iPad are independent devices that aren’t aware of each other (the watch requires and works with an iPhone). To stop iPad notifications, turn off your iMessage notification settings on iPad.

I mentioned I already disabled notifications on my iPad and while using it, still get text messages coming in and no notifications on either the iPad (because they were disabled) or the watch. I think this is happening for the same reason notifications don’t get pushed to the watch when you’re using your phone, it would be redundant. I think this is what’s happening now.

Anyways, yes I will just keep iMessage disabled on my iPad for now. I was hoping somebody had a work around that I hadn’t tried already.

I’m confused by your explanation. If you’ve disabled messages on the iPad, and you’re not receiving notifications on the iPad, then it’s working. The watch mirrors your phone by default. So if you want to enable or disable watch notifications, change your phone notification settings. You cannot link the watch behavior to your iPad settings.

If notifications are turned off on your iPad and you’re not getting notifications on your watch the 2 things are entirely unrelated as Chablig explained.
