Question about paying full price

Going to the Apple Store tomorrow. Have an iPhone reserved on the iPhone upgrade program but made a last minute decision to pay full price and buy it outright. Do I need to activate the phone on a line in the store, or can I just pay for the phone and go? Not a big deal either way, just wondering.

The carrier stores will keep you hostage if you want to buy outright.

Right on. I walked in almost two hours before my appointment and five minutes later was out the door with my new silver 128gb iPhone 7 Plus and extra lightning headphones and adapter. Nice and easy. Think I'm just going to pay full retail every year and sell my old one. A lot less hassle.

Congrats on the phone. I'm curious how the iUP program works what model # did they hand over to you for the Plus, A1661 or A1784? Should be on the back of the phone very tiny print.
