I have a 6th gen iPod classic that I restored recently but I’ve been curious on recent DAP and was wondering what’s good out there? Are Walkmans just fancy wording for “hi res” audio or can we completely upgrade the iPod classic guts to make it better? Despite iPhones being incredibly powerful for stuff, I still want something dedicated to audio and although I love my iPod classic, I’m curious to see if worth upgrading to devices like astell&Kern, etc. Part of the reason I haven’t jumped is for android support and not knowing if we can download Apple Music.

I have upgraded a few iPod Classics to SSD with a new battery and they work amazing, that's honestly probably the route i'd go with a 6th gen. As for Apple Music, won't work without your own tweaks to the source files due to DRM/subscription stuff on them, not sure of any players that work out of box for that.

Mine's on it's last legs, I refurbished it back in 2022 and the battery's horrible again and my hard drive is failing, where do you get your parts, the website I used to go to is charging insane prices on shipping or has out of stock parts.
