today snow leopard update window opened up. its an Mac osx update about 500MiB ! well i have question for this big update. it says added ipv6 more support and VPN reliability on update description. well this is kind if scary for me. all we know in IPV6 the government can trace your real IP even if you use VPN or proxy. this mac new update smell like kind of privacy killer (maybe i'm wrong) but what you guys think ? i'm an Freedom activism @china , do you recommend i install this mac new update or if i do my ass get kicked ??!

IPV6 is needed because the current IPV4 pool of address is nearly exhausted. This is not some nefarious move by the government to tract people's internet habits.

The update fixes a number of bugs, not just IPV6

i know what is ipv4 and ipv6
well my question is very simple. this update is going to kill privacy right ? (if i install update then even with VPN i'm not safe...)

No and IPV6 is the future. If you're that concerned about privacy your only option is not to use the internet.

This will definitely be implemented in Mac OS Lion as well. Therefore, if you are worried about it don't install it for the current time, but that means you won't be updating when OS X Lion is out!

ok i will not install it hope the stupid apple won't put security patchs on that update which i can't install ...
well i will not update to Lion too (even without privacy concern i won't bcoz all my setting will die) . this crap companies think all the people are Lulz sec member ..
shame on you apple

Dude, if you are that worried about the privacy of IPv6 you obviously haven't done much homework. Plus, what sites are you going to that you are that paranoid about the government tracking you (rhetorical question - I really don't want to know). Anyway, you can take care of the issue with some ease. It is a simple matter of enabling privacy extensions.

Check out this article:

Enabling Privacy Enhanced Addresses for IPv6

(edit) Also, there are security updates added to the latest upgrade: Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update

Unfortunately, in today's day and age, privacy is getting to be a thing of the past. The only true way to remain anonymous is, as maflynn stated, stay off the internet.

Good luck.

Very well said, I too believe the same thing and would have mirrored how you explained it.

Wow... is this guy for real?!?

You know what - put your MacBook up on craigslist and use the money to buy a copy of George Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four" along with a few rolls of aluminum foil in order to make a hat (you know, to stop the microwaves the government uses to read minds). Oh, and you may also want to buy a copy of Geraldine Woods' "English Grammar For Dummies".

Note to self - DON'T try to help trolls.

i several times called/emailed them asking what is "VPN reliability" "IPV6 fix" mean on the update and they said we can not explain !!!!!!

this is not fair at all
