My gmail account is nearing capacity at 7131 MB. Rather than delete all of my large emails, I decided to use the Mail client in Snow Leopard to remove all of my large attachments. Using this process, I probably removed a few hundred MBs of attachments.

When I log on to gmail, however, it's still showing that I'm using 7131 MB. So I went back to the Mail client and had it Synchronize "gmail". I even left my Mail client open overnight thinking it might take some time. However, when I log in to gmail some 15 hours later I'm still at 7131 MB.

Will gmail recognize that Mail has stripped these attachments away, and if so, it is normal for it to take a few days for it to fully get all of the changes from the Mail client? Or is there a better way to trim your gmail account?

thanks!
