So I recently had Yosemite cleanly installed on my macbook pro because it would not startup. My most recent backup was back when I had Snow Leopard, so if I were to reinstall all of my data and whatnot from that backup, would it also reinstall snow leopard?

Also, how do I reinstall certain apps/data/etc from my backup? I was using migration assistant but it didn't seem to give me an option to install certain apps and not install others.

If you used time machine to back up, then no, your restore will not reinstall snow leopard.

There is no good way to reinstall only certain apps from backup as it will require to track down all the preference files for only those apps. I'm sure someone else might be able to suggest an alternative.
