My Snow Leopard installation is a bit messed up. Basically, too much experimentation (without knowing what I was doing) with Automator actions, which I do not seem able to reverse. Also, I installed Lion, didn't like it, and went back to SL, and ever since then SL has been throwing daily kernel panics (which I am fairly convinced are connected with my external NTFS drives, until recently happy campers with Tuxera and even indexed in Spotlight). Nb this is on an MBA 'ultimate' late 2010.

So I'd like to try a fresh install of Lion (10.7.2 ironed out some of the problems from before). If it's still messed up I will go with a fresh install of Snow Leopard, but I guess the same questions still apply.

I have a Carbon Copy Clone of my 10.6.8. Ideally I just want to copy back the data from that, without the problems it developed lately.

Question is what about more intricate stuff that have libraries, like iTunes and Picasa? What is the best way to restore all the data without the system-level issues?
