Question about returning an iphone

so say i bought an iphone off ebay and theres no contract but something doesnt work on it it looks pristine


now say i go to the apple store buy a new iphone with a new plan and cancel within the week and just put the old phone in the new ones box


what will work?

if anyone has ideas LMK

just go to the apple store and tell them the phone doesn't work. they'll exchange it out for you if it legitimately doesn't work.
 
so ur saying i can walk in with a phone and they wont say a word

or ask about my number?

with the last iphone 2g they did
 
So let me get this straight:

You have "somehow" acquired a broken 3G.

You don't have a contract.

You don't have a legitimate claim to the phone, so it can't be exchanged.

You want to buy another phone, sell the new phone and return the broken one?

Do I have that right?

the iPhone has serial numbers/sim numbers, that's all you need. You don't have to have a current plan.
 
Possible Solution

Its pretty simple the Iphone 3G just barely launched so it isnt that old even if you bought it the first day. Now as long as it isnt unlocked you can simply walk in there and say that the phone does not work. They will then troubleshoot it with you at the Genius Bar and if they cant get it to work then they will get you a brand new one and switch it out.

Now with that being said if it is unlocked then you need to find someone that can flash it back to at&t or its original status. If you dont know anyone personally craigslist is always a good place to look. In most metropolitan areas there is always someone closeby that is a "professional" with Iphone unlocking etc.

its not broken it just wont make calls it looks pristine



i just want to exchage it i bought it on ebay

it has a warrenty till october
 
How does it not make calls.

-ok run this by me step by step.

-you are at the home screen then you push on the phone button then dial a number you know and press call........then what happens?

It can't be unlocked, it's a 3G. Unless it came from another country.

You're talking about it being jailbroken.

1. If it can't make calls, it's broken. It's a phone; it's supposed to make calls.

2. If it's a 3G, it'll have a warranty until next July at the earliest. Apple gives one year warranties.

If you bought it on eBay and it's not working with a good SIM, bring it into Apple and talk to a genius. You can make an appointment online at apple.com. It may just not be making calls because you don't have the correct SIM in it or it's not activated correctly.
 
He clearly states that "it cant read any sims even after unlock" so obviously the phone is unlocked. The phone can be flashed back to at&t and the problem would be fixed but if he goes and talks to a genius with an unlocked Iphone than they will turn him away. The phone wont make calls Im assuming because it wont read the sim or the phone was unlocked incorrectly and now the sim reader is completley non functioning. Flashing it back is the only possible fix which with an unlocked 3G finding someone to fix that might be a tricky process but I promise you can be done.
 
im just goijng to take it in i know a few people there i just need to figure out if its better to buy a new plan and 8 gb phone put the old phone in the box and return it before 30 days


or just try to get it teched
 
problem solvedi

i went t0 the store the guy looked it while looking at it they messed up the screen now hes going to swap it out tomorrow and do some kind of in store activation which makes me not having to sign up for a plan but they said i have to go to att afterwards to get an iphone plan
