I was reading in the MacRumors section about the trim issue with non Apple certified SSD drives. Someone gave a link to Samsung's download page to get a utility that updated the firmware of the Samsung 840 Evo series and also supposedly restored normal performance. I executed the utility on a late 2011 Macbook Pro that I had just installed a Samsung 840 evo in. The utility did it's thing and completed successfully.

My question is, does this take care of the trim problem permanently or will the utility need to be run periodically?

I did not disable KEXT-signing.

OS X is Yosemite.
