I've been trying to sell my 3G locally and a lady called me today and asked if the phone was on a clean ESN... I was stumped by this and she said she was asking if my 2 year contract had been up. I responded no, because the phone hasn't been out that long. She then said she had just spoken to AT&T and said that if I was still on contract that her SIM card wouldn't work in the phone... this is complete BS right? I haven't heard of this before, so I might be wrong.

Is there something else I need to know before selling my phone away? (It has never been jailbroken or unlocked)

just restore all settings, remove you simcard and you have a clean ESN.
ignore ATT......:D
