I am really not an audio guy, so I went to Amazon to get a bluetooth speaker and got 2 of the highest rated ones which were JBL Flip 4 and Oontz Angle 3(raindance?) . They are ok but I noticed that they have too much if an echo or base sound to them. Kind of like a surround sound for theater. They are "stereo" , surely stereo is better than Mono right? I thought this is how speakers are.

I stumbled on an Anker soundcore mini 2 and it has much clearer sound specially with voice. Its clear, powerful, and does not have that "hall speaker" effect.

My only guess is that the Anker is mono and hence sounds better, and the stereo (for some odd reason) gives worse sound.

Any one can give any further explanation? The JBL and Oontz were highly reviewed by thousands of people.

Audio is so subjective that reviews are going to be misleading unless it’s about objective metrics like battery life or water resistance. You really have the “audition” this stuff in your space.
By the ways, online reviews are bought and sold by the millions So they aren’t always a good indicator, sadly.

Well, at least is there an agreement that Mono is better for voice(like podcasts) than stereo? My macbook is definitely stereo and I don't see that "surround sound" effect.

Where would one go to find a reliable review? If I see a product that has 4/5 rating of 10,000 votes must be good enough right? I can't just buy $50 and $100 products until I find the right one. A lot of the "reviewers" tend to open a product out of the box and tell you how their experience was. This is not a good review, a review should be someone who tests the product. Does it create issue after some use, what are the negatives, positives, is it reliable, etc etc.

As barbu said, Amazon reviews can't be trusted. It is rife with fake reviews and rife with fake goods even.

I like to think im quite savvy about that kind of thing, but i've been bitten by this myself more than once..
Im not saying not to use Amazon by the way.. Just be cautious when using it.

Stick to known brands for a start. JBL is usually good though...
And usually any sound enhancing stuff these things have can be turned off.

This site has been useful since I found it. It helps weed out the stuff with fake reviews.

thanks for the website, do you know how I can turn this sound enhancing stuff? the speaker doesn't have settings or dashboard to enable or disable things.

I come from the old school in heaving a tweeter, mid range and base in speaker system!

So make your own speakers, there are ton of videos showing you how to do it!
