Question about Syncing iCal

I have had an iPhone for a while now but have just switched from a PC to a Mac. When you sync your address book on the phone with Address Book in Leopard how does it work? For instance if I have John Smith on the phone with the number 800-123-4567 and John Smith in Address Book with the number 800-123-7890 and I sync, which entry is overwritten? Also will the picture of the person I have in Address Book be transferred to the phone and appear when that person calls?
