Question about tech 21 mesh impact

Saw this case a while back due to the impact band turning me off due to clear back that scratches and wanting to show my gold off a little bit this is clear and still has protection.. Anyway does that mesh really go all the way through or just a pattern? Don't want dust to get through the hole and scratch my 5s
