I just started playing with my new MBP this evening. It's a 15" 2.2 Quad, HR, 7200rpm HDD. I installed smcFanControl.

Normally it idles near 40C which is normal. I fired up a 1080p streaming video and the temperature jumped almost instantly to the low 60C range. Same thing happened when I tried FaceTime. I know 60 isn't critical by any means, but is the sudden jump normal?

Yup, completely normal. 1080p video will work the CPU a bit more thus causing the temps to rise. Even if its a sudden jump, nothing to worry about at all.

That's normal and not too bad at all. I would be worried if you're going over 100 C.
