Not a camera expert by any means but familiar enough with all the settings and so forth to take good enough pictures in any situation (with a DSLR)

But I am not really familiar with having two camera lens at all. I have not seen apple mention much about taking a normal photo without zooming in that uses both cameras. We know the portrait mode they are releasing later this year will use both cameras to create the depth/blurred effect. But what if you wanted to take a normal picture with both cameras at the same time? Is there any benefit to this such as more detail/resolution? Shouldn't you be able to use both cameras and essentially create roughly a 24mp image that will have more detail?

Im sure they would have enabled it by default most likely if it increased quality, but if it doesn't can you explain to me why not?

Thanks
