I recently installed an SSD so I have two drives in my macbook pro. I wrote an applescript to unmount the HDD when I'm not really using it, and linked it to a keyboard shortcut using BTT.

The issue is that I am using a symbolic link to connect the downloads folder in my home folder (on SSD) to the real location I created on the HDD. I set this as the downloads location in Safari and all is well... until I unmount the HDD. The downloads revert to the desktop (which I was hoping would be a smart temporary behaviour in absence of the HDD) but even after remounting the HDD, the downloads location remains as the desktop in the settings.

Anyone know of a way to keep the downloads location working for me?

I may have found a temporary solution at least. I directed the safari settings directly to the folder on the HDD and it seems to work as I'd hoped; reverting to desktop in absence of HDD and then back to the folder when HDD is remounted. I was originally just trying to keep everything tidy in my home folder where it was pre-dual drive setup.

*edit*
It seems to have reverted back to Desktop again, not sure at what point it has done this. I might just have to manually change it if I know I will be downloading some large files (which is why I was trying to move it from the SSD, both for saving space as well as writes on the drive). Small files aren't an issue.
