I've read through the threads on the new Apple TV, but haven't seen this topic discussed. This is the first time I've ever heard of Thread, and from what I gather, it helps to extend a network (maybe similar to how mesh works, but maybe not). My question is, would Thread work with an Apple Time Capsule wifi network (I know the time Capsules/Airports were discontinued a while ago & I'm not sure if Thread requires more modern hardware to function)? I don't know what the requirements are and I haven't been able to find them anywhere. I have an Airport Network at my house that works great, with no plans to upgrade until the time capsule dies, so I'm not sure if the 'Thread' feature would even work for me.

Sorry for the simplistic question & thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Devices have to have thread built-in to the hardware for it to work, it can’t be added via software. It is like a mesh network but with limited distance and speed.

To clarify: The good news with Thread is that it's a technology that can be enabled in some older devices using firmware; as long as devices support the 802.15.4 protocol then they can be upgraded to support Thread.

Actually, I should clarify with this paragraph of the Internet:

The good news with Thread is that it's a technology that can be enabled in some older devices using firmware; as long as devices support the 802.15.4 protocol then they can be upgraded to support Thread.

HTH.
