Ok, if my MBP hard drive go caput, can I use Time Machine with an external drive to restore my MBP if I need to get it a new HD?

Ok just making sure. I thought I read somewhere that it may not be the best if your main HD needs to be replaced and you have to restore your data on a brand new spanking HD.
