Based on reviews of last year's MBP, I expected the touchpad to be completely unmoving, using haptic feedback to give the sensation of clicking. But the touchpad on my new 2016 MBPtb actually does move. Maybe by a millimetre when clicked.

Is this a change, or did I misunderstand how the touchpad worked in the past?

I have a 2008 unibody and just a few days ago got my 2016 MBP. The older 2008 used to move much more and it would actually click. The 2016 version seems to slightly move, maybe so it can tell how much pressure is on it. It doesn't click in a mechanical way like the older style.
