Question about transfering everything over to iPhone 4...

So I am upgrading tomorrow from my 3G to iPhone 4, but I was just wondering, if I do a backup of my current phone tonight, will it put that backup on my new phone tomorrow (moving over contacts, text messages, photos etc)?
