question about upgrading still under next

I want to try and preorder the iPhone 8 or whatever it is going to be called, my question is. I have an iPhone 7+ through the next plan at AT&T and it has $500 left I believe. Can I preorder through apple and use my phone number to order a new iPhone at full price and just sell my old phone after I receive it. I hope this makes sense

You could pre-order and pay retail and not go thru upgrade (if you are going to pay full retail price). You'd probably still have to pay the balance off on your old device before selling it tho.
