So if i wanted to use my mini as a home theatre system, what is the smallest mini i could get? performance wise i mean?

i.e. what is a similar mini set up to the ATV?

Caveman is the guy to post. He knows a great deal about this.

However, I have a C2D 1.83ghz hooked up to my 50" plazma, and every type of media seems to run fine. I have even run the 1080p apple Wall-E trailer and it ran smooth. The HD TV shows on iTunes also run great.

The lowest spec mini is specced higher than an ATV.

I have a 1.66GHz Core Duo Mini with 2GB RAM. It handles everything fine, but then I don't have a HDTV.

720 p and 1080p work really smootly with my 1.83ghz. I'm using Plex as my mediacenter http://www.plexapp.com/
At this moment I'm watching more 720p movies, because I'm limited to my 80gb harddrive.

Does anyone advise me in buying an external hd? It seems to be that the iomega 500gb minimax is too loud! any other options (max € 150,-)

thanks

i would think that you would want to max out the ram, prolly get a 150gb hard drive. i would also think an HD tv, but you dont need it. or you could go with the standard hard drive and a firewire external hard drive

HD tv, I already have a HD ready from Philips... and why 150 gb? I need at least 500gb for my mediacenter! So I'm really looking for an external hd like te iomega but one with a quiet fan.

thanks

How did you connect your Mac Mini to your TV? Also, is there a way to use the Mac Mini like a DVR Recorder. I would love to use the Mac Mini for everything:

  • DVD Player
  • DVR Recorder
  • Apple TV
  • Internet

I use my Mini for HT Duty..

It works great and has never had a problem playing 1080p

+ DVI & Digital Optical out are great.

I have it hooked up to my Harman Kardon receiver & 1080p Samsung LCD.

Mini Specs
1.6 GHZ Core Duo
2GB Ram
