I have a question about wifi. Not to much is explained with the papers i got with my ipod touch. I'm pretty sure that ll you have to do is pick up a wireless internet signal? Supposedly my neighbor has satelitte internet or something....?? all i know is that when i turn my ipod on it says i am connected to wifi through something called linksys But when i try to get on any of the online features, Safari, iTunes store or youTube, then it says that it culdn't find the server???? Is this me or the stupid ipod.? I have checked a million times. It always shows a strond signal. What can i do? I really want to use it but only certain ppl have enough moola to get wireless internet out in the boonies.

Thanks if you can help!:)
P.s sorry if i missspelled like a thousand words!

you might have to have a password to access your neighbors wifi. The Linksys network you are seeing is someone's router, probably your neighbors. You might also have to adjust a setting or two in your touch's software.

Do you see a little lock symbol near the network name? I'm likely confusing my touch with my windows mobile phone, but the thing I would do is approach your neighbor and ask him if he minds if you access his high speed now and then from your touch. it's the polite thing to do and if he's got it password protected, you'll have to get his permission anyway.

you cant steal internet!!!! u have to have a wireless signal in your own house so u can have the paswords and codes, its not ur ipod, its the wireless signal being passworded!

i'm not stealing anything. My neighbor doesn't know anything more about how the ipod works than i do and no they don't have their internet locked. what settings can i tweak?

thanks

People have been prosecuted for stealing their neighbors WiFi.

Not to mention, all the illegal things that can be done. A few years back, there was someone who was driving around with a laptop tapping into peoples WiFi connections. He was found by police to be viewing child porn. He was charged with that as well as stealing WiFi internet connections. It is a crime.

Sounds to me like his neighbor is fully aware he is attempting to use the wifi, but neither of them knows what they're doing.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong...

hmmm your reading it right,

I think u have it spot on, apoligies for earlier , you need to look into wireless keys, locks and such items. I would recomend a fone call to the service provider if its a complete package, for instance over in England BT offer a router with the broadband, and all I did was call them to get the codes, nothing much we can realy do without knowing the ins and outs, and I'm sure ive said the same to millions of similar questions, no worries tho!

:D All of you thanks for your help. I will look into everything. Hopefully my neighbor and I can figure it out. He has been helping me find stuff out.

Again thanks! And I sure you'll hear more from me! I always need help with something.
;)

LMAO!!!

this is extremely funny that you said "stealing" Wifi is a crime!!

First off, your not "stealing" someone's wifi. They put it out in the open for other people to use. If they didn't want other people to use it, they would put a password on it.

So you saying if you went to Walmart, and there was a vending machine that said "FREE SODA!!!" would you get some? That's not stealing......

So think before you post....

I think it'd be more like you were walking by your neighbor's house, and you saw his wallet sitting on a table through an open window where you could reach it, so you took it.

I agree that people should password protect their wireless networks, but regardless how you feel about it the law is increasingly coming down on people who access other people's wireless networks without their knowledge. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but the people who are saying you can get in trouble for it aren't out of line.

Hey!
I think I have the answer to why the linksys signal isn't working... Well i live in Santiago ,Chile and everywhere I go in the city there is that same signal always strong called linksys and it never really lets you do anything not even on my MacBook so I just let it be, I don't what that signal is for I just know that it's there and won't work... lol that was kind off useless... but just wanted to let you know that there's noting wrong with your iPod, just try to catch another signal

You're a moron...I shouldn't park my car on the street in the open if I don't want it stolen? I shouldn't leave something on my desk in the open at work if I don't want it stolen? Unlocked WiFi does not mean 'Hey cheapass kids, come take my internet' it means the person probably doesn't understand internet or they don't care. Either way, it is STEALING, read your TOS for Charter or Time Warner once dumbass.
