I’m thinking about getting Windows on my iMac through BootCamp to play some games, but I’m unsure about one important thing.

If I happen to get a virus on Windows is it possible that it can affect the files on the Mac os drive partition? Like can it wipe out my entire drive (macos AND windows)? I understand that Windows viruses generally cannot affect macos, but the fact that they share the same drive worries me a bit...

Absolutely not. Windows does not interact with your macOS partitions in anyway. If you get viruses, nothing will happen to your macOS.

If you are running High Sierra, this is even more safe because of APFS and how its container completely isolates itself.
