iphone explorer did not work for me, so I downloaded winscp. The first screen that pops up asking for the host name and such, is this just information i come up with? Or does it have to be something special. I had read that it asks for IP addresses and such. So i'm not really sure what to put in these fields.

If you're connecting your phone to your computer via USB cable, I'd suggest using iFunBox.

It's much easier to navigate than WinSCP, the only drawback it has against WinSCP is that it doesn't have a terminal.

What exactly went wrong with iPhone Explorer?? Did you try iPhone Disk?

iPhone Explorer looked nothing like the website's screenshots. It gave me no option to back up my files.

I see, yes is a simple File manager, to backup files you need to drag and drop them into your local pc (and rename them and copie them back if you want to keep them on the same device).

You may want to give iPhone Disk a try, it is very similar however it just show you the iPhone file system like a local hard drive (in finder if you are on OSX) then you can do all the things you do normally on your computer.

Is it iPhone Disk or just Phone Disk?

Host name is just your ip address of the iphone. Then like username would be root and password would be alpine or whatever you changed it to. Then just connect and it should connect. It is really easy to do and use.
