Question (Blackberry Bold to iPhone 4S)

Forgive my ignorance.

If a friend of mine has an account with Verizon on a Blackberry Bold with an active contract and they wish to upgrade their Bold to an iPhone 4S are they given a new 2 year contract for the iPhone 4S or would it be on their existing contract?

I ask this because I wanted to know if it is possible for me to pay them for the iPhone 4S after they purchase it at a contract price. They could then put their sim card back into their old phone and I could unlock the new iPhone without paying $600-$800.

Yes, it will extend their contract for an additional 2 years... so, unless your friend REALLY likes their current Blackberry, it'd be a bad move for them.

In either case, Verizon service on CDMA doesn't use SIM-cards and the way Verizon unlocks iPhones, it won't work with AT&T or T-Mobile.

Best to just go to Apple and buy a phone at full price.
