Question for anyone who has used an external iSight

I just got an external iSight camera off of eBay and it works and everything, but I am wondering if it is normal for the picture to be a bit grainy? I'm thinking this might be normal since it is a 5 year old camera and does not have as high of a resolution as today's cameras. But... I just wanted to check to make sure. Am I supposed to be getting a crystal clear image with the iSight?
