Resolved Question for ATT Users (SIM Related)

My contract is paid and I don't want to enter another with ATT (yet). In theory, could I purchase an unlocked iPhone 12 (or 13) outright from Apple, take the nano-SIM out of my busted XS Max (ATT), and insert it into my new iPhone and be off to the races with no fuss?
